Black Bean Burgers

Yummy black bean burgers made with just a few healthy ingredients

If you haven’t tried a black bean burger before, I hate to be the one to tell you this but…you’re missing out!!!

You don’t have to be vegan or vegetarian to enjoy plant-based burgers (although if you are, they’re perfect for your diet). I’m not vegan or vegetarian but I still love me a good black bean burger.

You can eat a black bean burger the same way as a beef burger, on a bun with toppings. You can also use them in more creative ways such as putting one over a salad, having one on top of a rice cake, or topping one with eggs for breakfast!

The ingredients in these burgers are simple:

Black Beans, of course- you can use canned (don’t forget to drain and rinse)

Almonds- you can also use almond flour but since I didn’t have any in the house, I went for whole, raw almonds (since they were going to be blended anyways) and it turned out great!! [Almonds can be very beneficial to your health!]

Nutritional Yeast- you can replace this ingredient with dairy cheese if you’d like but I prefer the yeast. It’s a dairy free alternative to cheese and I really love it! You can find it a most stores in the baking aisle.
+ egg & spices

You can buy black bean burgers at the store (which is totally fine to do!) but if I can, I like to make my plant-based burgers at home. By doing this, I avoid unnecessary additives and oils in store-bought patties.

Whether you’re enjoying a summer cookout or having a quiet dinner in, I definitely recommend these black bean burgers for a fun, new meal.

1 can black beans
-
1 cup raw almonds (or almond flour)

1/2 cup nutritional yeast
-
1 egg
-
2 Tbsp minced onion (dried) or onion powder
-
1 Tbsp garlic powder
-
1 tsp cayenne
-
1 tsp paprika
-
1 tsp cumin
-
1/2 tsp salt

Drain and rinse black beans

Add all ingredients to a food processor or high powered blender

Blend until combined, scraping sides as necessary
-
Form batter into burger patties
-
Cook patties in greased or nonstick pan over medium-high heat until warmed through and browned on the outside
