Hello! Who doesn't love hummus??? To be honest, when I was younger, the sight of hummus was so suspicious to me but after trying it that first time, I became hooked!

Hummus is a staple for me and it's almost always on my grocery list. Greek food in general is probably my favorite so I go through quite a bit of it. Hummus is usually made of just chick peas and seasonings so after a while I thought, why not just make my own and I can save a little money and try out my own here we are :)

This recipe is very basic intended for each person to customize it as they like. This is a simple flavor combo that I enjoy but once you blend the chick peas, tahini, and oil, the seasonings are personal choice.

I've used hummus in so many ways over the years. Some of my favorites include, on toast with everything but the bagel seasoning, on an omelet, in a salad, as a dip with veggies or pita bread, mixed with rice....I could go on and on. But there's so many ways to use hummus!!!!

Get creative and let me know what way you like eating hummus!

Tiff Tips

  1. The type and brand of oil you use does make a difference in taste. I've tested this recipe with two different brands of olive oil because that's what we had in the house and one had a very different taste than the other

  2. A food processor works best for this recipe. A blender will work as well but it may take longer to achieve a smooth consistency

  3. If the consistency is too thick, add a drizzle more of olive oil until it's loose enough for you

  4. For a creamier hummus, you can shell the chickpeas before blending them

  • 1 can chick peas, drained

  • 1/4 cup olive oil (or other cooking oil)

  • 2 Tbsp water

  • 1 Tbsp tahini

  • 2 tsp cumin

  • 1 tsp paprika

  • 1/8 tsp salt

extra olive oil for topping

  • Add chick peas to food processor and blend until the blade no longer reaches the chick peas

  • Scrape the sides, add the remaining ingredients, and blend until smooth. Scrape sides as necessary.

  • Serve chilled and enjoy!

Store in the refrigerator for about 1 week
