MARCH 2020

My Favorites This Month

It’s officially Spring!

“My Favorites This Month” is a new series I’m starting and within these type of blogs, I’ll be listing foods, appliances, products, etc. that I’ve been enjoying throughout the month.

This past month has been a whirlwind for sure but despite the many changes going on, I’ve discovered and revisited some awesome things that I enjoy!

Coconut Milk Yogurt Alternative

SO Delicious

Almond Milk Yogurt Alternative

Lately, I’ve been experimenting with dairy free yogurt. I’ve never been a milk drinker or used a lot of cheese in my foods so yogurt has been the only dairy item I consume regularly. And recently, my stomach doesn’t seem to love it so I’m seeing if dairy free works better for me. I’m not dairy free or lactose intolerant, that I know of, but my mom and sister are so it’s not out of the realm of possibilities that I could be slightly avert to it. So far, these two are my favorites! I buy unsweetened vanilla which is no added sugar and yet, I love the flavor (no sour creamy taste). I’ve always bought plain yogurt but it’s not always the tastiest by itself (add some fruit and it does the trick though:)). The coconut milk kind obviously has a coconutty flavor and is a bit looser than the almond milk. The almond milk kind is creamier and has a bit more fat content. Both are great options! The only downside to these yogurts over a greek yogurt is that the protein content is almost nonexistent in these so it’s good to keep that in mind.

Sprouted Whole Grain Flax Bagel Thins (gluten free)

I’m not gluten free but I love varying foods in my diet so I wanted to give these gluten free bagel thins a try. These are sold in the freezer section of the grocery because they’re sprouted. I enjoy having bread frozen because I don’t feel as pressured to use it right away. The flavor is awesome in these! I think I bought the everything flavor which is an all time favorite. Because these are bagel thins, they are much smaller than a regular bagel but if you’re looking for something lighter, these are great option. Lastly, as with most gluten-free items, these bagel thins aren’t the cheapest things so I won’t be buying them regularly. But, if you are gluten free or have the budget to buy them regularly, I recommend!

Taco Inspired Hummus

Hummus!!! Is there a dip that’s better? I don’t think so. I do enjoy making my own hummus at home but sometimes store-bought is easier and plus, when I pass this section in the grocery and I see a new flavor…it’s hard to resist. I’m about 99.6% positive that this Taco Inspired Hummus is my favorite hummus flavor that’s been made thus far. I’m a sucker for garlic, onion, paprika, lime, etc. And I could eat this all day long!

Electric Egg Cooker

Say hello to most convenient kitchen appliance ever….I’m being slightly dramatic but seriously this thing is amazing. I’ve had mine since the beginning of college and it’s a time saver for sure. This cooker can make hard boiled eggs, soft boiled eggs, poached eggs, and omelettes in just a few minutes. I mainly use it for boiled eggs because I can easily pop them in there and come back when there done. If you love eggs like I do, I think this is a superb purchase.

Calypso Basics Powder Coated Enameled Colander

Reston Lloyd

Yes, it may seem odd to have this on my favorites list because it’s just a colander but it’s a colander that I really love. I’m a college student and I’m often floating from place to place but overall I cook meals for myself a lot. And when you’re cooking for just one, a little individual colander is amazing. This colander is metal and sturdy, it can stand on it’s own, and it’s easy to fit in the dishwasher. The only downside for me is that the holes on it are pretty big so foods like rice, quinoa, and other small items will likely fall through. But all in all, I love it and I recommend!

Personal Care

Coconut & Vanilla Deodorant

I have yet to find a natural deodorant as good as this one. Some natural deodorants are wet feeling or they don’t actually mask any smell or they don’t last longer than 5 minutes. But, Native feels like regular deodorant, it works like deodorant should, and for me it lasts all day (not counting workouts). I love it and it’s the only thing I buy now. Also, this scent is really nice.

Oil Blotting Tissues
Natural Premium

Who knew these were a thing?? I asked around and apparently everyone except me so whoops. I had no idea they existed but they’re pretty cool. In case you don’t know, these oil blotting tissues are used to absorb any excess oil on your face throughout the day. These tissues are small and thin and easy to carry around in a purse or backpack. I don’t have a super oily face but I still find use out of them. A few dabs here and there makes a big difference.

Dead Sea Mud Mask

Aria Starr Beauty

I really love this face mask. It in a 8.8 oz jar so it lasts for a while. I’ve used it many times and am still not through one jar yet. This mask supposedly cleans and exfoliates your skin. I’m not a skincare expert by any means but I do find that my face is softer afterward and it has seemed to benefit my skin so far. Plus, I enjoy putting it on. Every time I use it, I come out of the bathroom and walk up to my niece and nephew and wait for them to look up and realize. They laugh so hard and run away from “the black mask on my face.” I would suggest using a face mask brush to apply this mask (you can find brushes on Amazon). Because it’s a multi-use container, I would assume it’s better not to use your hands over and over but honestly I do it sometimes so no shame either way.

Beach Babe Texturizing Dry Shampoo

Not Your Mother’s

If you’re a woman, I know you’ve heard of dry shampoo. Who invented it? I don’t know but I’d like to say thank you! I don’t use it all the time but there are days when it has been a hair saver for sure. I’ve tried a few different brands but this is by far my favorite. It has a wonderful coconut smell and it doesn’t leave white streaks in my hair. I definitely recommend.

Can’t Stop Won’t Stop Contour Concealer

Not much to say about this except that I really like this concealer. It’s a fair color so I use it under my eyes, on the top of my nose, on my chin and between my eyebrows extending up and then I’ll dab it with a beauty blender. I’m not a huge makeup person..I don’t spend much time on it or try crazy things but this is a very straight-forward product I found a while back that I’ve really enjoyed.

Baked Blush + Illuminator + Bronzer

Okay, so I received this blush for free at NYC fashion week my freshman year of college and oh my goodness I love it. I think blush is really pretty in general but I’m not into deep reds or anything super bold. I think the one I have is the far left in the picture above (light pink) and it’s a very subtle color. It adds a slight shimmer and a nice bronzy light pink color to the cheeks. Like I said before, I’m not an expert in makeup but I really enjoy this blush.

Shepherd Looks at Psalm 23

W. Phillip Keller

This book is one of the best I’ve read in a while! And it’s a perfect book to read during the time that we’re in. This book dissects Psalm 23 from the perspective of a shepherd. It splits the verse up into bite-sized sections and goes into depth with each one. I love the way it was written and the way the author relates his experiences as a shepherd to the verse and to God, our Shepherd. It’s a short read so with most people at home right now, it would be a great book to dig into! You can buy it off amazon for only a few dollars. I highly, highly recommend.
